Basic Lookup Behavior
The following table describes the basic lookup field behavior in the lightning experience.
Behavior
Description
Search or Select
You can click anywhere in the Lookup field to search or select from the Lookup drop-down list with context and advanced filters. The list shows records matching the filter condition.
You can use the tab and up or down keys to select a value from the lookup field. Use the tab key to reach the lookup field and then use the up and down keys to navigate through the Lookup search results. When the required lookup value is selected, you can press the Enter key to select it. Use the tab key to navigate to the next field.
*
If you press the Esc key at any point, then the lookup search result is closed without any selection.
The tab key enables you to only navigate through the items. It does not enable you to select the items in the drop-down list. As soon as the list is finished, the tab key advances to the next field.
Keywords
You can enter keywords with at least three characters in the lookup field to display the auto-suggested results with matching values in the drop-down list. The matching result is displayed based on the search operator, and filters (if any) configured on the Lookup field.
The search operator on the Lookup field is derived from the Default Search Operator property configured on the Layout Editor > Field Properties. For more information on how to configure this property, see Field Properties.
If the Default Search Operator property is set to None, the search operator is derived from GBL017.
Enter Key
To open the Lookup modal window, you can press the Enter key on the Lookup field with or without a keyword. This reduces the additional click required to open the Lookup modal.
*
The lookup fields are auto-populated with the keyword search result if only one matching result is found. This is applicable only when SET001 (Module: SFM Transaction Manager; Sub-Module: SFM Transaction Delivery Engine) is set to True.
The lookup drop-down list auto-adjusts to display in the user's preview, based on the positioning of the lookup field on the page layout.
