Business Context
Service businesses record, update, and analyze technical specifications of their installed products in order to understand more about their installed base and its usage. This helps them provide better service coverage, predict any potential downtime / maintenance and take corrective / preventive actions towards that.
Common attributes of an installed product such as Serial Number, Status, Date Installed, and so on, are captured at the object level, regardless of their product types. However, since the installed base can include installed products belonging to various product types, there can be product-specific attributes whose values also need to be captured. Some examples of such attributes are Ink Level in printers and Maximum Output Current in stabilizers, which are very specific to printers and stabilizers respectively. Instead of creating new custom fields for all such attributes at the object level, the Technical Attributes feature provides a virtual way of capturing the current value of such attributes and viewing past values for any trend analysis.
