Technical Attributes
Your business deals with various products, so you need to capture a wide range of data for your installed base. The Installed Product object helps capture common attributes like serial number, installation date, and status. However, creating new custom fields for specific products or groups of products can be cumbersome. The Technical Attributes feature allows you to record and maintain data for specific attributes without creating multiple custom fields used only sparingly.
Define Technical Attributes as templates for a Product, Product Line, or Product Family, and apply them to installed products. A Technical Attributes template can include multiple attributes with optional default values. This enables technicians to record, update, view, and track values for these attributes. Technicians can also use these values as references and record any changes for analysis.
Business Context
Service businesses record, update, and analyze technical specifications of their installed products to understand their installed base and usage. This helps provide better service coverage, predict potential downtime or maintenance, and take corrective or preventive actions.
Common attributes like Serial Number, Status, and Date Installed are captured at the object level, regardless of product type. However, the installed base can include products with specific attributes that need capturing. Examples include Ink Level in printers and Maximum Output Current in stabilizers. Instead of creating new custom fields for all such attributes, the Technical Attributes feature provides a virtual way to capture current values and view past values for trend analysis.
Key Features
Use Technical Attributes to capture readings or current values specific to one or more types of installed products. This is particularly useful when you have a wide variety of products and need to capture different data for each. For example, you might capture the ink levels in a printer, helium level in an MRI scanner, and so on.
Additionally, the Technical Attributes feature allows you to refer to previous values of specific attributes. Technicians can use these values to ensure the installed product functions correctly and within acceptable threshold limits.
