Interruptible activity region (dictionary item)
For automation interface information about an Interruptible Activity Region, see Activity group (automation interface). For automation interface purposes, an Interruptible Activity Region is an Activity Group that has its Group Type set to Interruptible Activity Region.
An Interruptible Activity Region supports termination of tokens flowing in the portions of an Activity.
Create an Interruptible Activity Region through a Modeler explorer pane or an Activity Diagram:
In a Modeler pane, right-click an Activity, and select New > Activity Group > Interruptible Activity Region.
On an Activity Diagram tab, click the Interruptible Activity Region button, and then click in free space.
When used on an Activity Diagram, an Interruptible Activity Region's notation is as follows.
The View Options on an Activity Diagram allow you to show or hide the Name of the item and its type, that is, «Interruptible Region». The view options are set through the Activity Group entry. See Activity group view options - activity diagram.
On an Activity Diagram, you can populate an Interruptible Activity Region's missing referenced items, Comments and Constraints: right-click the Interruptible Activity Region, point to Populate, and then click the appropriate command.
An Interruptible Activity Region references any items that are added to it. That reference is removed if the item is deleted from the diagram or moved outside of the Interruptible Activity Region, assuming that the item does not appear on that Interruptible Activity Region on any Activity Diagrams.
If you add an Interruptible Activity Region to an Activity Diagram, you can populate it with the items it referenced: right-click the Interruptible Activity Region, point to Populate > Contents.
To specify that a Control Flow, Object Flow or Exception Hander is an interrupting flow for an Interruptible Activity Region: open the flow's Property Pages, click the Items tab, in the Show Associated list select Interrupts, click the Link button, and then select the Interruptible Activity Region that the flow interrupts.
In the Dictionary pane, Interruptible Activity Regions are listed in the UML\Activity Groups folder.
In the Modeler panes, a short-cut symbol on the Interruptible Activity Region's icon indicates that the item is a stub.
The following sections provide information about how an Interruptible Activity Region is used in the model. For more information about a property, item, model part or diagram, click it.
Properties
In addition to the standard properties an Activity Region has these properties:
Owned by
Owns
Dependency — The Dependency is owned jointly by the Interruptible Activity Region and the other associated item. The access permissions you have to a Dependency are determined by the access permissions of the dependent item.
Defined in these parts of the model
Shown on these diagrams
Can be linked to these dictionary items
In addition to the owning Activity, an Interruptible Activity Region can be linked to the following items.
Stereotype — To make an Interruptible Activity Region valid for a Stereotype, set up Activity Group a valid item type.

Like most other items in a Model, an Interruptible Activity Region can be linked Activity Partition, Comment, Frame Box, General Node, General Flow, General Flow Diagram Node, Constraint (applied), General Flow Diagram Flow or Swimlane.
