An Index specifies secondary access keys to a Table, together with relationships to specify links to other Tables. A Table can have many Indexes. Each Index has a unique name and comprises one or more columns. For each column you can specify a sort order.

You create an Index through the context menu of a Table in the Packages pane.

If you select the Proprietary\Indexes folder in the Dictionary pane, the Contents pane displays the following information about each Index in the model: Unique and Table (owning).

In the Modeler panes, a short-cut symbol

on the Index's icon indicates that the item is a stub.

Properties

In addition to the standard properties, an Index has these properties:

• Unique (Is Unique through the automation interface)

• Column Order (Col Order through the automation interface)

• Column Sort Order — ascending or descending

Constraint

Dependency — The Dependency is owned jointly by the Index and the other associated item. The access permissions you have to a Dependency are determined by the access permissions of the dependent item.

Column — The linked Column is used by the Index.

Stereotype

Like most other items in a Model, an Index can be linked to an Activity Partition, Comment, Frame Box, General Node, General Flow, General Flow Diagram Node, Constraint (applied), General Flow Diagram Flow or Swimlane.
