Capability (UPDM - NAF aliases)
Creation
To create a Capability:
From an Architectural Description or Service Description: right-click the Architectural Description or Service Description, point to New, point to NAF, point to Capability, and then click Capability
From a Capability: right-click the Capability, point to New, point to NAF, and then click Capability
From an NPV-2 Project Activity Hierarchy, NOV-2 Operational Node Definition, NOV-4 Typical Organizational Relationships Chart, NOV-5 Operational Activity Hierarchy, NCV-1 Enterprise Vision, NCV-2 Capability Taxonomy, NCV-6 Operational Activity to Capability Mapping, NSV-1 Resource Specification, NSV-4 Functionality Hierarchy, NSV-5 Function to Operational Activity/Service Function Definition or NSV-9 Technology and Skills Forecast Definition: click the Capability toolbar button, and then click in free space on the diagram.
Appearance
When shown on an NPV-2 Project Activity Hierarchy, NOV-2 Operational Node Definition, NOV-4 Typical Organizational Relationships Chart, NOV-5 Operational Activity Hierarchy, NCV-1 Enterprise Vision, NCV-2 Capability Taxonomy, NCV-6 Operational Activity to Capability Mapping, NSV-1 Resource Specification, NSV-4 Functionality Hierarchy, NSV-5 Function to Operational Activity/Service Function Definition or NSV-9 Technology and Skills Forecast Definition, a Capability appears as follows:
When shown on an NCV-4 Capability Dependencies, a Capability appears as follows:
Relationships
The following relationships are of importance to a Capability:
Generalization relationships to define inheritance ( NCV-2 Capability Taxonomy).
Exhibits relationships link a Capability to elements that exhibit that Capability.
Expose relationships link a Capability to Service Interface elements that are exposed by that Capability.
Forecast relationships link a Capability to forecasted future Capability elements.
Maps To Capability relationships link a Capability to Function, Operational Activity, Standard Operational Activity and Project Activity elements that map to that Capability.
The following sections provide information about how a Capability is used in the model.
