Template Match Rule Execution and Application
Template Match Rules control how Technical Attribute Templates are selected and applied to installed products. In a rule, Installed Product fields are mapped to Product Attribute fields, and a match combination is defined using up to three fields.
The system evaluates Template Match Rules sequentially, based on the configured rule order. For each installed product, the system checks the rules one by one and applies the template associated with the first rule that matches the installed product field values.
Technical Attribute Template is applied based on the template match values defined in the Template Application Criteria. When the field values of an installed product match the configured template match field values, the corresponding Technical Attribute Template is applied automatically according to the rule details and rule sequence.
Once applied, technicians and other service users see the attributes that best match the installed product in the Core Technical Attributes LWC and in service tasks that use Technical Attribute Templates. For more information, see Viewing and Updating Technical Attributes Using Lightning Widget and Executing a Technical Attribute Task from a Service Product.
Use Case
Applying Technical Attribute Templates based on Installed Product Name and Product Family
Role: Service Administrator
Scenario
A service administrator at the Iniscope International manages Installed Products that are associated with a Product Line and a Product Family. The administrator has identified certain attributes that must be shown to technicians for specific Installed Products belonging to specific Product Family to improve efficiency in service execution.
Configuration
The administrator configures Template Match Rules in this order by mapping Installed Product fields to Product Attribute fields:
Rule 1: Record ID AND Product Family (Installed Product Fields) equals Installed Product AND Product Family (Product Attribute Fields)
Rule 2: Out-of-the-box rule, Match by Product and Match by Product Family.
While creating a Technical Attribute Template, the administrator defines Template Match Values:
Template Match Value 1: Installed Product Name equals Iniscope_2345 AND Product Family equals Imaging Systems
Template Match Value 2: Product Family equals Imaging Systems
On 23 April 2026, a field technician accesses an installed product with the following values:
Installed Product Name: Iniscope_2345
Product Family: Imaging Systems
Execution
When the technician records the attributes from the installed product using the Core Technical Attributes LWC or from the Task in a Work Order, the system evaluates the Template Match Rules sequentially.
The system checks Rule 1 first. The associated Technical Attribute Template is applied automatically as both Installed Product Name and Product Family values match the configured Template Application Criteria.
The system does not evaluate subsequent rules after the first successful match.
Outcome
The technician sees only the attributes defined in the applied template for the installed product.
This ensures that the most specific and relevant attributes are displayed, reduces unnecessary data entry, and improves consistency in service execution.
