About the Name Parameter
All artifacts in a design have a Name parameter. It is used to identify the artifact instance. Names can be:
• Automatically generated
• Derived from other parameter values and automatically updated as a result of parameter changes
• Manually created and modified
A set of rules makes sure the name of an artifact instance is unique and identified with the design. By default, the Name parameter is used as the component’s reference designator in Creo Parametric Piping and Cabling.

Use of the ref_des parameter overrides the default use of the name when exporting to XML.

The name must be unique in the context of the parent or the design if it has no parent. When Global name is selected in the Properties dialog box, the name is unique in the design even when the object has a parent.
