To Modify Instance Names
1. Select the instance.
2. Right-click and choose Properties from the shortcut menu. The Properties dialog box opens. The full name of the current instance is displayed in the dialog box title. The top-left box displays the current Name Format of the artifact or the Name of the instance, depending on the name format set for the artifact.
3. Choose the type of name definition from the list at the top right:
◦ Autogen—Generates the name using the current name format, automatically choosing a serial number for a unique name.
◦ Serial—Generates the name using a specific Serial number and current name format.
◦ Free Format—Uses the name explicitly specified in the Name box.
◦ Unset—Removes any name value. The instance is still unique but the name is deliberately unset.
4. Set the Name Format and Serial number or Name as required.
5. Click the Global Name check box if the name must be unique in the design.
6. Click OK.

Artifacts in the catalog have Free Format names. Use the name_format parameter to set the name format used by instances of the catalog item.
