About Catalog Parameters
Click > and use the
Define Types dialog box to configure the global definition of object parameters. To view or modify a catalog artifact's object type, click
in the
Catalog Explorer.
There are two types of parameters:
• Object type—Classifies the category to which an object can belong
• Global—Default parameters and values that can be assigned to object types
When you create a new design, a list of default object types is automatically included in the design. New object types are created as subtypes of existing object types (parents). Each new type inherits the parameters of the parent.
When an object is created, it automatically inherits the global parameters that have been assigned to its object type. Objects include artifacts, templates, sheets, and datasets. You can change parameter values when they are applied to the object. System parameter values are constrained to a set of predefined values. User-defined parameter values can be imported or user-defined.
The set of types available for an object is filtered by the object class:
Object | Types Available |
Blocks | COMPONENT |
Fibers | CONNECTION |
Ports | PORT |
Groups | COMPONENT or CONNECTION |
Sheets | DOCUMENT |
Datasets | DATASET or SPOOL |
