About Cross-referencing Variable Group Shapes
When you place an unconstrained variable group on a design sheet, you may want to place only one member of the group or place different group members in different locations. To keep track of the members' locations, you can cross-reference them.
First create one or more cross-referenced shapes for the variable group. Select the Cross ref shape check box in the shape's Group Properties dialog box to designate the shape as a cross-referenced shape. The shapes display the locations of group members that are placed anywhere in the design when the cross-referenced shape is instanced or last updated.
You can only create cross-references for a variable group if you define the type of cross-referencing in advance as part of the parameter definition. Choose an Associated cross ref type from the list:
Other instanced members—This is the default.
Member map—The variable group must have a dataset applied to it with membermap information. The membermap defines parameters for individual members in the group. This type of cross-reference will display all other members of the group, regardless of whether they have been placed in the design or not.
Master / Slaves—A member of the group can be designated the master member (click Assign Master the Select new master for <group member name> dialog box opens.) The other members of the group are referred to as slaves. The master member for the cross-referenced groupshape is the same for all other instanced members. Once instanced, the slave cross-referenced shape shows the location of the master member.
