Online tutorials: Analyze an assembly
Scenario:
You ask a subcontractor to build a subassembly for your product. The subcontractor sends you a finished CAD file via email. But, you want to
Make sure the model meets specifications
Check the model for interference or other flaws
Make actual changes to the model to try out your ideas
Add comments to the model to send back to the subcontractor
Save the model back into its original file format
Analyze
If you want to analyze an assembly for any reason, use these links to learn the basics:
1. Load files. Save the email file to your local disk, then load it as instructed in this How to section. You can also load your own assemblies into the same view — from your desktop.
2. How to Zoom, pan, and rotate your view to do a preliminary visual inspection.
3. Work with the structure and drawing browsers for an easy view of the design's part structure.
4. Show and hide parts and other data to make viewing easy.
5. Measure edges, distances, blends, and other dimensions to ensure the model meets your specifications.
6. Switch between 2D and 3D views. If your model includes 2D views, you'll need to switch between views to best evaluate the design.
7. Detect interference (clash): Bringing models together sometimes results in unintended clashes or touching parts. Ensure your parts don't interfere.
8. Reposition objects. If you do find interference, or if the parts just need to be moved relative to one another, try repositioning.
9. Try new ideas. If you want to make changes to the model, you could:
a. Change radius
b. Create Blends
c. Move faces
d. Delete 2D and 3D data
10. Add Comments: Capture views of your model and then use text and drawing tools to record your comments. Then send the mark up to your subcontractor.
11. Save. With your analysis done, save the design to your local file system or to the project workspace.
