Creating an FCO Search using Technical Attributes
Prerequisite
To perform an FCO search based on Technical Attributes, you need to Define the Search using the Technical Attributes search type.
You can define FCO search using Technical Attributes of various data types such as Number, Boolean, Text, Picklist, and Lookup. For example, you can define a lookup‑type technical attribute, Software Version in an FCO search to identify installed products running a specific version, v11.0, that are impacted by a recall or modification.
Prerequisite: To define the search for the Installed Products, select one of the following options:
All Levels of IB: Select this option to search all levels including the top-level and parent level of IB of IB attributes.
Top Level IBs: Select this option to search all top-level installed product records, excluding any IP records that are a child record.
*
The options All Levels of IB and Top Level IBs are available only for Installed Products and Technical Attributes search types.
To define a search query for the Technical Attributes search type, perform the following steps:
1. Navigate to the Define Search screen in the FCO Creation wizard.
2. Click the + button to create a query.
3. Select Search Technical Attributes from the drop-down. The following Search Technical Attributes section is displayed:
4. For the selected Product, select the required Technical Attribute from the drop-down list and choose the appropriate operator. For example, for the Software Version technical attribute, select the Is equal to operator.
5. Provide the required value for the selected Technical Attribute.
6. Click + button to add additional search lines using the Expression Builder. For more information, see Creating search expression using Expression Builder for Technical Attributes.
Use Case
Identifying Installed Products Affected by a Software Recall
Role: Asset Manager
An asset manager at the Insicope organization performs a field change analysis to identify installed products impacted by a software recall.
When a software recall is issued for version v11.0, the asset manager needs to identify all affected installed products.
The asset manager defines an FCO search using the Technical Attributes search type and selects the Software Version technical attribute, which is configured as a lookup data type. The search is scoped to Installed Products that have v11.0 as the matching criteria.
Once the search is executed, the system evaluates the lookup technical attribute values stored for each installed product and matches them against the selected lookup value.
As a result, the FCO search generates result lines for only those installed products that are running software version v11.0.
When the asset manager reviews the FCO search results, only the installed products impacted by the recall are displayed.
Outcome
This ensures accurate identification of affected installed products, reduces manual analysis, and enables timely corrective or preventive actions based on precise technical attribute data.
