Inset Components
An inset has three components: a focus, a leader, and an inset image (or simply “the inset”). Each component is shown below.
1. Focus
2. Leader
3. Inset image
See the sections below for more information on each component.
Focus
The focus is an enclosed region that defines what appears in the inset image. It has the following properties and behaviors:
The focus can be shown or hidden, depending on its appearance properties.
The focus has an optional border with a selectable shape (which is the same as the inset image shape).
You can lock and unlock the focus.
When locked, the focus moves with the camera and retains its original location in the 3D scene; i.e., the “focus view.”
When unlocked, the focus always faces front and is selected so you can change its location and size and optionally edit its appearance properties. You can also reset the figure to the focus view when the focus is unlocked.
Leader
The leader is a straight line or sweep arrow that connects the inset to its focus. It has the following properties and behaviors:
The leader tip is anchored to the focus so it moves with the focus.
The leader base is anchored to the inset image. It moves when you move the inset image.
You can set leader visibility based on focus visibility on a per-figure basis.
You can edit leader appearance properties separate from focus and inset image appearance properties.
Inset Image
The inset image displays the region enclosed by the focus. It has the following properties and behaviors:
The inset image has an optional border with a selectable shape (which is the same as the focus shape).
The inset image magnification (or reduction) depends on the relative sizes of the inset and focus. If the focus is smaller than the inset, the inset shows a magnified view. If the focus is larger, the inset shows a reduced view. (You must unlock the focus to resize it.)
When you move the camera, the inset image always faces front and always shows the focus view.
*
To change the image in the inset, you must change the focus view. To do this, you must unlock focus and change its location or size.
You can edit the size, location, and appearance of the inset separate from the focus.
