To Measure the Distance between Entities
1. On the Home tab click the arrow next to Measure.
2. Click Distance. The Measure: Distance toolbar appears.
3. Click on the toolbar to expand the Measure: Distance dialog box.
4. Under Setup, select a reference entity. The entity can be a vertex, datum point, coordinate system, edge or curve, axis, surface, quilt, face, part (in assembly mode), or a component (in assembly mode).
5. Hold down the CTRL key and select another entity of a type listed in the previous step. The distance between the two selected entities is calculated and displayed in the Results area, the measurement panel, or both.
6. To set an option for a reference entity, right-click the Options column next to the entity and click a check box. You can select one option for each entity. The following options are available depending on the type of selected geometry:
Use as Plane for a planar surface
Use as Line for a straight edge or a curve
Use as Center for a curve or an edge shaped like an arc or a circle
Use as Axis for a cylindrical surface
7. To measure the maximum distance between the selected reference entities, click the Measure maximum distance check box.
8. To project the distance, click the Projection collector and select a reference plane, surface, axis, edge, curve, or a coordinate system. The projected distance and actual distance are calculated and displayed as results.
9. To project the measurement onto a view plane that lies horizontally along your computer screen, click . The projected distance and the actual distance are shown. Click again to activate the Projection collector.
