To Specify Options for the Reference Entities for Measurement
Before performing the following steps, select a measure tool and expand the corresponding Measure dialog box:
1. Select a reference entity such as an edge, surface, coordinate system, or a plane for the measurement. The selected reference appears in the Setup area of the Measure dialog box.
2. Depending on the selected entity type, the Options column under the Setup area shows some or all of the following options:
Option
Description
Use as Plane
Extends the selected surface or plane to infinity in both directions for measurement purposes. The surface remains the same but is treated as a plane. The measurement is the distance between the plane that is formed by extending the surface to the other selected entity in the normal direction.
Use as Line
Extends the selected straight edge or curve to infinity in both directions for measurement purposes. The curve or the edge remains the same but is treated as a line. The measurement is the distance between the line that is formed by extending the straight curve to the other selected entity in the normal direction.
Use as Center
Measures the distance from the center of a circle or an arc-shaped curve or edge. Clear this check box to measure from the edge instead of the center.
Use as Axis
Measures the distance from the central axis of the cylindrical surface. Clear this check box to measure from the surface instead of the axis.
3. Continue to perform the measurement analysis and view the results.
