The edge imprinting functions of Creo Elements/Direct Modeling create edges on a target part which can either correspond to the linear projection of a profile onto or through a part; a line defined on one face of the part; the intersection with another part; or a silhouette of a specific view of the part. The imprinting of edges does not change the original shape of the target part.
You can also imprint a 3D curve on a surface.
The figure below shows a tool part (1) and the blank (2) intersecting the blank. The edges at the intersection of the tool and blank are imprinted on the resulting part.
To imprint a profile onto a part,
1. Click Modeling and then, in the Model group, click the arrow next to Imprint.
2. Click Linear. The Linear dialog box opens.
3. Specify the part to be imprinted.
4. If necessary, change the workplane name so that the workplane containing the profile is active.
5. Enter a distance through which to imprint the part or parts.
6. Select the imprint direction from the cascade menu.
7. Click to complete the operation.
The following list describes each of the options:
• Part: Specifies the name for the part to be imprinted. You can also use the browser to specify the part. The default is the active part. To imprint an existing part, click Part and specify the part. Be sure to enter a slash (/), or other path name, before you enter a part name.
• Workplane: Specifies the workplane and profile to use. You can also use the browser to specify the workplane. The default is the active workplane (if it contains a valid profile).
• Distance: Specifies the projection distance.
• To Part: Specifies an existing part to imprint to. The profile must not extend beyond the boundary of the part.
• Direction: Defines the direction of the imprint operation:
◦ +W: Positive normal direction of the workplane containing the profile.
◦ -W: Negative normal direction of the workplane containing the profile.
◦ Both Sides: Both sides of the workplane containing the profile.
• Keep WP: Specifies whether to keep the workplane after the imprint operation. The workplane is kept by default after the operation.
• Keep Prof: Choose whether to keep the profile after the imprint operation. The profile is kept by default after the operation. If you choose not to keep the workplane, you will automatically lose the profile in that workplane.
To imprint a line onto a face,
1. Click Modeling and then, in the Model group, click the arrow next to Imprint.
2. Click Line.
3. Click the face to be imprinted.
4. Click two points on the face defining the imprint line. The points must lie on edges of the face.
5. For a non-planar face, the Direction 3D tool appears; use this to specify a direction to define the plane of the imprint intersecting the face.
6. Click to complete the operation.
To imprint an intersection onto a part,
1. Click Modeling and then, in the Model group, click the arrow next to Imprint.
2. Click Intersection. The Intersection dialog box opens.
3. Specify the name of the blank part.
4. Specify the name of the tool.
5. If necessary, select Keep Tool option.
6. Click to complete the operation.
Creo Elements/Direct Modeling imprints the interface of the two parts onto the part selected as the blank.
Creo Elements/Direct Modeling uses an option box to request the information for each of the part operations.
The following list describes each of the options:
• Blanks: Specifies the name for the part (or list of parts) to be modified in the operation. The default is the active part. You can also use the browser (Browser) to specify it.
• Tools: Specifies the tool part (or list of tool parts) to use. You can also use the browser (Browser) to specify it.
• Keep Tool: Specifies whether or not to keep the original tool parts after the intersect operation. Keep Tool is ON by default.
To imprint a silhouette onto a part,
1. Click Modeling and then, in the Model group, click the arrow next to Imprint.
2. Click Silhouette. The Silhouette dialog box opens.
3. Specify the name of the target part.
4. Specify the direction of the view to be imprinted by clicking Direction to open the Direction 3D menu. Select the direction. The Direction entry box displays Defined.
5. Click to complete the operation.
Creo Elements/Direct Modeling imprints the silhouette of the view onto the specified part.
The following list describes each of the options:
• Parts: Specifies the name for the part to be imprinted. You can also use the browser (Browser) to specify the part. The default is the active part. To imprint an existing part, click Part and specify the part. Be sure to enter a slash (/), or other path name, before you enter a part name.
• Direction: Specifies the direction of the required view to be imprinted. Creo Elements/Direct Modeling displays the Direction 3D menu to help you specify the view direction.
