Inserting Gates and Events
Several methods exist for inserting gates and events in a fault tree. The following table describes these methods and provides references to the topics that explain how to use them.
Method
Description
Reference
Insert command
Inserts a gate or event of a selected type.
FTA Tools toolbar
Inserts a gate or event of a selected type.
New Top Gate command
Inserts a new top gate (fault tree).
Repeated Event command
Inserts a repeated event.
Select Transfer from Gate window
Inserts a transfer gate to go from the transfer-in gate on one page to the transfer-out gate on another page.
In the Options window, Diagrams > Create one object at a time controls insertion behavior. For more information, see Diagrams User Options.
Once an event is inserted in the tree, you can link it to another item in the System file so that it uses the failure data calculated for this item. If the FMEA, Markov, and/or Prediction modules are in use, you can link an event to a FMEA data record, a Markov diagram, and/or a system tree item. For more information, see Inserting a Data Link. Otherwise, you must specify properties for the event. For more information, see Gate or Event Properties.
