About Shifts and Shift Plans
To ensure that staff coverage meets the needs of your organization, you use Shifts and Shift Plans.
Shift Plans
Shift Plans define patterns of Shifts and free time for staff members. You can schedule Shift Plans to start on any day in a calendar month in a specific time zone. You can create Shift Plan cycles of any length, whether days, weeks, or months, with specific start or end dates. When you assign Shift Plans to staff members, the first and all subsequent Shift cycles are based on the defined start or end dates.
Shifts represent specific time periods within Shift Plans. Shifts have numbered days, such as Shift 1 and Shift 2, within Shift Plans.
Shifts
After you create Shift Plans, you can create and add Shifts. Shifts define staff member availability and work segment duration for use in work assignment and location monitoring. Each Shift typically represents one work day and is composed of configurable Shift Segments that define time intervals for various activities, such as breaks or time off. You can configure Shifts for staff members, assign Shifts to staff members in User Preference records, and select a default Shift in System Setting records.
Holiday Calendars
To ensure that holidays are not scheduled as working days, you can create Holiday Calendars that supersede planned Shift dates. Max Platform applications include several predefined Holiday Calendars for major countries. You can modify these or create new Holiday Calendars to fit your organization’s schedule. Holidays defined within Holiday Calendars supersede Shifts within Shift Plans that fall on holidays.

Only Holiday Calendars defined at the system and user level supersede Shifts that fall on holidays. When Shift Plans are defined at the staff member level, holidays that coincide with Shifts in Shift Plans are ignored.
