Part Consumption Process Flow
When
part usage is configured in your org, the end user actions related to part consumption in the Complex Work Execution flow trigger the part-related updates in the background. These updates facilitate better management of parts with respect to Installed Products and other product-related data.
The part consumption process helps end users in the following areas:
• Installed Product hierarchy is updated to ensure that the true digital copy of the Installed Product is maintained. For example, if the field engineer replaces a part by swapping one part with another as part of fulfilling work order, the latest part details are updated in the Installed Product hierarchy when the part consumption process is run.
• Better asset traceability is enabled. Relevant objects are updated with suitable details when the part consumption process is run. The Part Usage process flow is triggered when the work order is closed. When a work order is closed*, all the part details for the work order are processed and Inventory, Installed Product and Installed Product Activity are recorded/updated.

*Leveraging the flow-based approach allows administrators to clone and configure the flow based on their need.

The Part Consumption process flow is triggered when the work order is closed. When a work order is closed, all the part details for the work order are processed and various records are updated.
The following sequence of events occur as part of the Part Consumption process flow:
1. You mark the work order closed by changing the Order Status field value as Closed.
2. The Part Consumption process is triggered. You can view the Part Consumption Status field value updated to In-Progress.
3. The Part Consumption Status changes to Completed when the process is complete.
4. The following processing is performed for the part consumption against the part usage recorded in the work plans by the end users:
◦ Install Product hierarchy is updated for the serialized part usage. If the end user has swapped a part by replacing a part with another, it is reflected in the Install Product hierarchy for the related records.
◦ Inventory reconciliation is performed based on Parts Usage.
◦ Part Usage Transaction and Work Order statuses are updated with success or failure.
◦ Stock history is created for stockable and serialized parts.
◦ For consumable parts, IB Part Activity record is created.
◦ For stockable parts, Product Stock, IB Part Activity, and Stock History records are created.
◦ For serialized parts, Product Stock, IB Part Activity, and Stock History records are created.
