Resource interaction (UPDM - NAF aliases)
Creation
To create a Resource Interaction as a link that does not realize any elements:
From an NSV-1 Resource Specification: click the Resource Interaction Link toolbar button, click the source element and then click the destination element.
The source and destination elements can be Capability Configuration, Organization, Physical Architecture, Post, Resource Artifact, Responsibility, Service Access or Software elements.
On the Select Conveyed Classifier dialog, create or select the Resource Interaction element's conveyed classifier.
From an NSV-10c Resource Event-Trace Description, click the Resource Interaction Message toolbar button, in line with the required Statement click the source lifeline, and then click the destination lifeline.
To create a Resource Interaction that realizes a Resource Interface:
From an NSV-1 Resource Interaction Specification: click the Resource Interaction toolbar button, and then click the Resource Interface you want to realize.
On the Select Conveyed Classifier dialog, create or select the Resource Interaction element's conveyed classifier, and from the context menu click the command for the destination element.
To create a Resource Interaction that realizes a Resource Connector or Service Channel:
From an NSV-2 System Communications Description: click the Resource Interaction toolbar button, and then click the Resource Interface or Service Channel you want to realize.
On the Select Conveyed Classifier dialog, create or select the Resource Interaction element's conveyed classifier, and from the context menu click the command for the destination element.
To create a Resource Interaction that realizes a Function Edge (Control Flow) or Function Edge (Object Flow):
From an NSV-4 Functionality Description: click the Resource Interaction toolbar button, and then click the Function Edge (Control Flow) or Function Edge (Object Flow) you want to realize.
From the dialogs that appear, select the conveyed classifier, the source element, and then the destination element.
The conveyed classifier of a Resource Interaction can be a Capability Configuration, Energy, Exchange Element, Geo Political Extent Type, Materiel, Organization, Physical Architecture, Post, Resource Artifact, Responsibility, Service Access or Software.
You can convert a Resource Interaction to a Command or Control when the source and destination elements are Organization, Post or Responsibility elements: right click the Resource Interaction, point to Convert To, and then click the required command.
Realizing Elements
A Resource Interaction can realize many Resource Connector, Resource Interface, Function Edge (Control Flow), Function Edge (Object Flow) and Service Channel elements.
To make a Resource Interaction realize an element:
Drag the Resource Interaction from a Modeler pane to the Resource Connector, Resource Interface, Function Edge (Control Flow), Function Edge (Object Flow) or Service Channel on a diagram.
Drag the Resource Interaction element's conveyed classifier from a Modeler pane to the Resource Connector, Resource Interface, Function Edge (Control Flow), Function Edge (Object Flow) or Service Channel on a diagram. On the Select Resource Interaction dialog, select the realizing Resource Interaction.
Right-click the Resource Connector, Resource Interface, Function Edge (Control Flow), Function Edge (Object Flow) or Service Channel that is to be realized, point to Links, point to Realized, and then click Resource Interaction. From the dialog, select the Resource Interaction elements that you want to realize the element you right-clicked.
If you right-click the element on a diagram, the Resource Interaction elements that you select are added to the diagram.
You can view which elements are realized by a Resource Interaction on the Items tab of its Property Pages. In the Show Associated list, select Realization. Do not attempt to realize elements through the Items tab.
After realizing an element, you can change the source and target elements of the Resource Interaction to those of the realized element, when it is valid to do so: on a diagram that shows the Resource Interaction realizing the element, right-click the Resource Interaction, and then click Set Ends to Realizing Link Ends.
Appearance
When shown on an NSV-1 Resource Specification, a Resource Interaction Link appears as follows:
When shown on an NSV-1 Resource Interaction Specification, NSV-2 System Communications Description or NSV-4 Functionality Description, a Resource Interaction realization appears as follows:
An NSV-3 Resource Interaction Matrix shows the source and target elements for Resource Interaction relationships in a table, and an NSV-6 Systems Data Exchange Matrix shows information about Resource Interaction relationships.
Relationships
There are no relationships that are of significant importance to a Resource Interaction.
The following sections provide information about how a Resource Interaction is used in the model.
