Create (scan) a BOM:automatically
Automatically create a Bill of Materials (BOM) from a drawing or assembly structure with the Scan command. Scan searches the model or drawing assembly structure, links the relevant Masterdata elements together, and creates a preview of the BOM. Scan creates a new BOM from an existing modeled part or helps reconcile an existing BOM with a newly modeled part. See What is BOM? for more information on working with BOM.
Once the BOM is created, use the BOM Editor and perform the following tasks sequentially:
Scan
is not available on workplanes and containers or models marked as reference.
will use previously assigned position numbers and other link attribute values.
will retain split parts.
will report and handle cases where changes could not be applied because of permission problems.
In Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager, click File > Modules > BOM Editor to activate the BOM Editor (license required).
To create (scan) a BOM,
1. Select an assembly or Masterdata in the workspace.
2. Click Structure and then, in the BOM group, click Scan. Alternatively, right-click and, in the shortcut menu, click BOM > Scan. The Scan BOM dialog box opens.
*
If you're scanning BOM from Masterdata that is linked to different models, you'll have to select the model to scan.
3. In the Configure BOM Scan pane,
Select the level of the assembly to scan.
Select the load rule for the part or assembly to scan.
4. Click Next.
5. In the Modify BOM Scan pane, select a scan type, a Revision, and a Masterdata for each item in the BOM.
To select a scan type, a Revision, and a Masterdata,
Click the Revision box or the Masterdata box to specify the revision or a masterdata for the item.
To select a scan type, click the drop-down arrow next to each item to select the parts and assemblies to include or exclude from the scan:
Include in BOM: Scan this item and include it in the BOM. (Default)
*
The scan type Include in BOM is not available when the Masterdata that owns the assembly is in state released.
Include in the BOM but don't scan: Include this item in the BOM. You may want to include an item in the BOM but not scan it if you've adjusted your BOM below this item and do not want any interference from the scan. (Will not alter the Masterdata structure below this item.)
*
Any item selected as Include in BOM but don't scan may show a structure below the item because it existed this way in the BOM. However, the structure below the item was not modified by the scan.
Exclude from BOM: Remove this item from the BOM.
6. Click Next. Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager scans the BOM. In the Preview BOM Scan pane any deleted or removed items appear with a red strikethrough. To include these items in the scan, right-click the model or assembly, and select Undelete. The item is marked as a Manually Managed Item.
Use Search and Filter to customize the preview.
To use Search, click the arrow next to to highlight All Changes, Added Item, Deleted Item, Modified Item, or items with No Change. By default, Search highlights All Changes.
To use Filter, click the arrow next to Filter to display and highlight only All Changes, Added Item, Deleted Item, Modified Item, or items with No Change.
7. To reconfigure the BOM, click Back.
8. Click Finish. When the scan is complete, the BOM Editor dialog box opens.
After you've scanned the BOM, Masterdata icons for each part appear in the Masterdata folder in the Recent List. Each time you scan an assembly the Masterdata folder displays the current Masterdata information for that scan.
In the BOM Editor, click Rescan to update the BOM.
