Generate a BOM report
When you create a BOM, you have a complete set of data for a particular part or assembly. Generate a BOM report to
Summarize the complete BOM structure.
Group or filter the data to show only specific information about the BOM.
Determine total quantities of parts in entire assemblies.
*
Create a BOM before you generate a BOM report. See Create (scan) a BOM:automatically.
To generate a new BOM report,
1. Select a Masterdata item in the Workspace, click Structure and then, in the BOM group, click BOM Editor. Alternatively, right-click and, in the shortcut menu, click BOM > BOM Editor.
2. Click Generate Reports in the BOM Tasks panel.
3. Click Create a new report: select a type.
Consolidated Report provides a simplified list of all parts in a BOM. Typically, the report used on a drawing.
Structured Report displays all subassemblies and their contents in a tree structure. Typically, the report used to calculate costs and order parts, and the report sent to an ERP system.
Flattened Report displays all subassemblies and their contents in an unstructured view without consolidation.
4. Click Next.
5. Select the following:
Depth of the report (number of levels).
Options.
Only display items with a quantity greater than 0
If you select a number for the report depth
Always Show Leaf Assemblies: This option lets you handle leaf assemblies as parts, such as when the assemblies at the specified level of the assembly are purchased parts or inseparables.
This option only has an effect when:
The selected level is less than the number of levels in the assembly, and
Show by type is selected, and
Assemblies is unchecked.
When all of these conditions are true, and Always Show Leaf Assemblies is checked, any assemblies at the specified level will be included in the report.
If unchecked, the assemblies will not be included in the report.
What to show in the report:
Use 'Show in report' flags: display the items with a checkmark in the Show in report column.
*
If your assembly is marked Show in Report and you select Use ‘Show in report’ flags, the entire assembly will be treated as an inseparable.
Show by type: display parts, assemblies, or both.
6. Click Next.
7. If you have set Effectivities, Views, or Options in the BOM Editor, you can filter the data shown in the report. However, if you haven't set Effectivities, Views, or Options, you will skip to the next step.
To filter the report,
a. Check the box next to Effectivity, View, and Options.
Click the calendar to select the Effectivity date. Or, type an integer if your administrator configured lot/sequence numbers for Effectivity.
Click the drop down arrow to select a View.
Highlight an available Option and click the arrow. Use CTRL to select multiple items at once.
b. Click Next.
*
For View and Options:
If you select a view or option as a filter, the report also includes items with no specified views or options.
Check the box and leave the field blank if you want items in the BOM with no View or Options to appear in the report.
Leave the box unchecked (no filter) if you want all items in the BOM to appear in the report.
About Effectivities, Views, and Options
To use Effectivity, Views, and Options, you must add them to the layout in the BOM Editor.
a. In the BOM Editor, right-click the white space and select Layout > Masterdata. The Masterdata attributes window opens.
b. Select Effective From, Effective To, Option, and View. Select any other options you want to appear in the BOM Editor layout.
c. Once the columns appear in the BOM Editor, type values for View and Option.
d. Click the calendar, or type a number to set a Effective To and Effective From range.
Effectivity designates a period of time during which a part in the BOM should become valid. Define this field with either dates (default) or with lot/sequence numbers.
View is a way to look at the BOM. For example, Manufacturing view, Purchasing view, Assembly line view.
Options are values such as Economy, Standard, and Deluxe.
There are no default values for Effectivity, View and Options. To use any of these, select a date or integer for the Effectivity and type the View or Options value for each item in an assembly.
You must define the Effectivity, View, and Options for each Masterdata. Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager does not save the values for re-use with another Masterdata.
8. Tailor the report appearance. Click the arrow on each assembly or part to include or exclude it from the report.
Phantom: The assembly will be treated as a collection of parts. The parts will be included in the report, but the assembly will not be listed.
If you selected Phantom for the assembly structure, you can also click the arrow next to each part of the assembly to Include (default) or Exclude it from the BOM report.
Inseparable: The assembly will be treated as a part and its underlying parts will not be included in the report.
Include: Include in the report.
Exclude: Do not include in the report.
9. For a Consolidated report, select attributes for consolidation. These attributes determine the appearance of the report by consolidating like items into one line item. At a minimum, Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager requires the ELID to determine the context for consolidating like items and total quantities. However, you can select additional attributes for consolidation: Select the attribute in Available Attributes and click .
10. Click Finish.
The generated report appears as a tab in the BOM Editor. Close a BOM report by clicking the X on the tab. The reports are destroyed when you close the BOM Editor.
*
If the assembly contains a stock/finish relation, the stock part instance in the stock/finish relation is not included in the BOM.
