System Tree Items Table
The System Tree Items table defines the hierarchical structure of the system to analyze. Traditionally, a system tree represents the many assemblies and parts in a hardware design. However, a system tree can also represent abstract modules for software and process designs.
Sample System Tree Items Table

The pane name is the table name. Because a custom name can be specified for the System Tree Items table, the name in your Projects might differ from the one used in this help system. For more information, see Table Settings (Project).
The following modules use the System Tree Items table: FMEA, FRACAS, Maintainability, and Prediction. In a newly created System file, a single item named System appears as the top-most assembly in the tree. You can rename this item to reflect the type of system that is being analyzed. Additionally, you can insert or import the various assemblies and parts that make up this system. For more information, see:
Additionally, you can create and use Assembly Library files to simplify or further refine the entry of assembly data. For more information, see Assembly Library Files.
The Table Format file for the System Tree Items table determines the data fields that appear. The following table describes the fields that are shown by default. For more information, see Table Format Files.
Field
Description
Name
The name of the item (assembly or part).
Part Number
The part number assigned to the item. If you have licensed the Prediction module, you can search for a part number. If Windchill Risk and Reliability finds a part number match in enabled Parts Library files, it retrieves and displays information for that part. If no match is found, you can manually enter data for the part. For more information, see Part Number Searches.
System Tree Identifier
The unique identifier assigned to the item. The format is specified by System Tree item identifier, which appears under Identifiers in the System file properties. For more information, see Identifiers System File Properties.
Reference Designator
The identifier for systematically recognizing the item. For example, an item’s reference designator might be S1, A1, R22, or C15.
Description
A description of the item.
Manufacturer
The manufacturer of the item.
Failure Rate, Predicted
The failure rate predicted for the item. This display-only field is blank until prediction calculations run. The predicted failure rate for an assembly is a summation of the predicted failure rates for child items.
To have different fields appear in the System Tree Items table, you can modify its Table Format file (Table Format (System Tree Items)). This is very easily done using the Format Builder. For more information, see Using the Format Builder to Modify an Enabled Table. For instance, in the System Tree Items table shown earlier, two fields were inserted in its Table Format file: MTBF, Predicted and Tagged Part.
The System Tree Items table supports 15 subtables. The following topics provide additional information about how the system structure is defined:

When a Project is created from a Windchill product, imported parts and end items use different icons than those used for assemblies and parts inserted directly in the System Tree Items table. When this table is active in the System file, a Windchill menu is available. In the System file properties, Version Information > Windchill PDMLink/MPMLink Settings displays the Windchill part selected as the top level item for the system tree. For more information, see Windchill Parts.
