Generating Random Data Points for a Data Set
For a Weibull life or ALT data set, you can generate random data points for its Data Points table. Based on parameter values that you supply in the Generate Random Data Points window, the built-in Monte Carlo simulation engine is used to generate and add data points to the table.
1. In the LDA Navigator, select the data set for which to generate random data points.
If this data set has not yet been inserted, first insert it as described in Inserting a Data Set. You can generate random data points for a Weibull life data or ALT data set.
2. In the panes for entering parameter values, specify the values for this data set.
3. Select LDA > Generate Random Data Points.
If this command is unavailable, random data points cannot be generated for the active data set.
If you have changed parameter values for an existing data set and these new values conflict with generating additional random data points, a window opens, indicating that the existing data must be overwritten to continue. In this case, you must click Yes to continue.
The Generate Random Data Points window opens. The options that appear depend on the type of the active data set.
4. Complete the Generate Random Data Points window. The options shown depend on the type life data set. For more information, see:
5. When finished, click OK. While the data points are being generated, a window opens, indicating progress. When the process finishes, you can view the generated data points in the table in the Data Points pane.
