Steps for Running Mission Calculations
The following table provides guidance on the steps you take to effectively and efficiently run mission calculations, which are prediction calculations based on a Mission Profile file. In addition to supplying general instructions and descriptions, this topic references other topics where appropriate. These referenced topics typically describe how to perform the actions indicated.
*
The actions in the following table are numbered to indicate that they are performed sequentially. To successfully run mission calculations, you must complete these actions in the order in which they are listed.
Action
Description
1. Open the Project’s Mission Profile file.
The Mission Profile file is a singular support file that is created when the Project is created. You need only to open it. You can open a Mission Profile file in the same way as any other file. For more information, see General File How-Tos.
2. Insert a mission definition for each unique mission profile
Insert the necessary mission profiles. For more information, see Inserting a Mission Profile.
3. For each mission definition, insert the appropriate mission phases.
For each mission definition, insert the phases in the mission. For more information, see Inserting a Mission Profile Phase.
4. Calculate prediction and/or FMEA results.
You run calculations by clicking Calculate on the standard toolbar or by selecting System > Calculate. For more information, see Calculating Prediction Results. To have mission calculations run for predictions, in the Calculate window, both Prediction on the Calculation Selection page and Mission calculations on the Prediction page must be selected. Mission calculations include mission failure rate, mission MTBF, mission reliability, and mission availability based on the various mission phases in the Mission Profile file. To have mission calculations run for FMEAs, in the Calculate window, FMEA must be selected on the Calculation Selection page and the FMEA > Mission Phase page must be completed. For more information, see Calculating FMEA Results.
