Calculating FMEA Results
Calculating results for a FMEA consists of making the appropriate selections and then starting the process. Only one FMEA can be calculated at a time.
1. In the FMEA Table, select the FMEA to calculate.
2. To open the Calculate window, do one of the following:
On the standard toolbar, click Calculate.
Select System > Calculate. The Calculate window opens.
Press F8.
3. On the Calculation Selection page, select FMEA. If this checkbox is cleared, FMEA calculations do not run.
4. Complete the FMEA pages. For more information, see FMEA Calculation Properties.
5. After entering any additional data for other calculations to perform, click OK to run the requested calculations.
The Calculation Progress window opens, displaying progress as the calculations run.
When only FMEA calculations run, a window opens, indicating that the calculation is complete. In this case, click OK.
If calculations for other modules are also performed, the View Calculation Results window opens so that you can view the results for these other modules. In this case, when you are finished viewing these results, click Close.
Once calculations are finished, you can view FMEA results in the FMEA Tree Items and FMEA Worksheet tables. For a component FMEA, the failure rates for items get pulled in from the system tree. For process and functional FMEAs, the failure rates for linked items get pulled in from the system tree items or FMEA items or modes to which they have been linked. For more information, see Data Links.

If both the FMEA and FTA modules are in use, you can build a fault tree from a calculated FMEA. For more information, see Building a Fault Tree from a FMEA.
