Inserting an NPRD Library Part into a System File
You can use the Library Browse window to search for a mechanical part in either the NPRD 2011 Library or NPRD 1995 Library and insert it and its associated failure rate into a System file. Because most models support failure rate calculations for only electronic parts, the ability to insert NPRD parts is very advantageous. For more information, see NPRD and EPRD Libraries.
1. In the System Tree Items table, select the assembly for which to insert an NPRD part.
2. In the new record in the Parts Table, select NPRD for Part Classification. The Library Browse window opens in the pinned mode. For more information, see Library Browse Window.
If Part Classification is not included in the Parts Table or if Automatically browse for NPRD/EPRD parts has been cleared under Prediction in the Options window, you must select Prediction > Browse Libraries to manually open the Library Browse window.
3. For Search for, select NPRD 2011 Parts or NPRD 1995 Parts.
The default is NPRD 2011 Parts because this newer NPRD Library includes more than 81,000 mechanical parts. The NPRD 2011 Library also supports two new environments, AA– Airborne Attack and GBC – Ground Benign Commercial, and one new quality level, Industrial.
4. Complete the search criteria fields for an NPRD parts search. For more information, see NPRD Parts Search Criteria.
5. When finished, click Search or press Enter to initiate the search.
Search Button
6. In the Results pane, which displays all NPRD parts that meet the specified filter criteria, select the part or parts to insert.
To select contiguous parts, click the first part and then drag the mouse until all of the desired parts are selected. To select noncontiguous parts, press and hold down Ctrl while clicking the desired parts.
7. Once all parts to insert are selected, click Insert. The selected parts are inserted in the System file. The Library Browse window remains open in case you want to continue to insert parts.
8. When you are finished inserting parts, close the Library Browse window by clicking the X in the upper right corner.
9. For each part inserted into the System file, enter data in the Parts Table as well as on each Prediction Parts form.
If a MIL-HDBK-217 model is selected for the calculation, you can view and modify the part parameters for an NPRD part in the Prediction Data pane. For more information, see Entering NPRD Part Parameters.

If Uses Cycles/Hour or Uses Miles/Hour is selected, the part failure rate in the NPRD Library is in failures per million miles or failures per million cycles. To convert the failure rate to failures per million cycles or failures per million hours, you must enter the number of cycles or failures per hour for Cycles/Hour or Miles/Hours in the part’s Prediction Data window. Only the NPRD 2011 Library has parts with failure rates expressed in failures per million cycles.
