Encoded Part Number Searches
As described in Part Number Search Overview, you can use the powerful proprietary search algorithm to look for possible part number matches in enabled library files. It is used when Encoded Part Number Search is selected (default) for Search method under Parts Library Searches in the Options window. The other search options referenced in this topic also appear under this same heading in the Options window. For more information, see Parts Library Search User Options.
When the search algorithm is in use, Part Number is first searched in all enabled Libraries for an exact match. If Alternate part number search is selected, Alternate Part Number is also searched.
If an exact match is found, the data for this part is retrieved and shown in part-related panes.
If an exact match is not found, the search algorithm removes a portion of the entered part number and performs the search again, repeating this process until either a match is found or all selected search iterations are exhausted. The portions of the part number removed are based on Search without checkbox selections. The following topics describe these search terms and the order in which searches for part variations are performed:
If a match is not found after all Search without variations are performed, the search algorithm tries to locate the entered part number in the Resistor/Capacitor commercial and/or military libraries if Resistor/Capacitor commercial decoding and/or Resistor/Capacitor military decoding are selected. For more information, see Resistor and Capacitor Part Number Decoding Algorithms.
To identify categories, subcategories, and parameters for as many parts as possible, the search algorithm is also when importing a BOM (Bill of Materials) into a System file. For more information, see Importing and Exporting. If desired, part number searching can be turned off and on. For more information, see Turning Off and On Part Number Searching.
