Parts Library Search User Options
The following table describes the user options that appear under Parts Library Search in the Options window. These options allow you to specify part number search behaviors, indicate which library files to search, and specify whether windows open when multiple part matches are found. For more information, see Part Number Searches.
Option
Description
Alternate part number search
Indicates whether to search Alternate Part Number if no matches are found in Part Number. When this checkbox is selected (default), Alternate Part Number is searched.
Correlated part number field
Specifies the Parts Table field in which to store in-house part numbers. When you enter an in-house part number that maps to a part number in a Prediction Parts Library file, this in-house part number can be saved to any one of the following Parts Table fields: Alternate Part Number (default), CAGE Code, Logistics Control Number (LCN), or User-Defined Text. None is also a choice. When None is selected (default), the in-house part number that you enter is not saved in the Parts Table.
*
When User-Defined Text is selected, the in-house part number that you enter is saved to User Text 4 in the Parts Table.
Multiple correlated part match handling
Indicates the behavior to exhibit when multiple part matches are found in Prediction Correlation Library files. Choices are:
Display All Matching Part Numbers — When selected, all matching parts in Correlation Library files are shown in the Matches Found window so that you can select which one to insert in the Parts Table.
Select First Part Found — When selected (default), the first matching part found in Correlation Library files is inserted in the Parts Table.
Multiple part match handling
Indicates the behavior to exhibit when multiple part matches are found in Prediction Parts Library files. Choices are:
Display All Matching Part Numbers — When selected, all matching parts in Parts Library files are shown in the Matches Found window so that you can select which one to insert in the Parts Table.
Select First Part Found — When selected (default), the first matching part found in Parts Library files is inserted in the Parts Table.
Windchill Risk and Reliability libraries
Indicates whether to search Windchill Risk and Reliability libraries, which includes the decoding of digital integrated circuit part numbers. Prediction Parts Library files are always searched before Resistor/Capacitor commercial and military decoding libraries. Windchill Risk and Reliability libraries are password-protected so that they cannot be modified. This is to ensure the integrity of the part data therein. When this checkbox is selected, Windchill Risk and Reliability libraries are searched. You can also search these libraries using the Library Browse window. For more information, see Library Browse Window.
Resistor/Capacitor commercial decoding
Indicates whether the decoding of commercial resistor and capacitor part numbers is enabled for part number searches and library browsing. When this checkbox is selected, decoding of commercial resistors and capacitors is enabled. For more information, see Commercial Resistor and Capacitor Decoding.
Resistor/Capacitor military decoding
Indicates whether the decoding of military resistor and capacitor part numbers is enabled for part number searches. Decoding of military resistor and capacitor part numbers is not supported when using the Library Browse window for prediction parts. When this checkbox is selected, decoding of military resistors and capacitors for part number searches is enabled. For more information, see Military Resistor and Capacitor Decoding.
Search method
Indicates the method to use for part number searching. Choices are:
Disable All Library Searching — When selected, no part number search is performed.
Exact Part Number Search — When selected, a search for the exact part number is performed.
Encoded Part Number Search — When selected (default), a search for the exact part number is performed. If a match is not found, the search algorithm begins removing portions of the part number, based on ‘Search without’ checkbox selections.
Search without checkboxes
Indicate the additional searches to perform if an exact part number match is not found. All ‘Search without’ checkboxes are selected by default. Additional information about the search algorithm and how it iteratively searches for variations of the part number appears in Encoded Part Number Search Order.
Search without dash suffix
Indicates whether the search algorithm is to remove any dash and the characters that follow the dash. For example, if an exact match of part number ABC1PART9SUF-W1XYZ is not found, a search for ABC1PART9SUF would be performed.
Search without dash suffix and prefix
Indicates whether the search algorithm is to remove any dash, the characters that follow that dash, and any alphabetic characters that precede the first number. For example, if an exact match of part number ABC1PART9SUF-W1XYZ is not found, a search for 1PART9SUF would be performed.
Search without dash suffix, prefix and suffix
Indicates whether the search algorithm is to remove any dash, the characters that follow that dash, any alphabetic characters that precede the first number, and any characters that follow the last number. For example, if an exact match of part number ABC1PART9SUF-W1XYZ is not found, a search for 1PART9 would be performed.
Search without dashes and slashes
Indicates whether the search algorithm is to remove all dashes and forward or backward slashes (/ or \). For example, if an exact match of part number ABC1PART9SUF-W1XYZ is not found, a search for ABC1PART9SUFW1XYZ would be performed.
Search without prefix
Indicates whether the search algorithm is to remove any alphabetic characters that precede the first number. For example, if an exact match of part number ABC1PART9SUF-W1XYZ is not found, a search for 1PART9SUF-W1XYZ would be performed.
Search without prefix and suffix
Indicates whether the search algorithm is to remove any alphabetic characters that precede the first number or follow the last number. For example, if an exact match of part number ABC1PART9SUF-W1XYZ is not found, a search for 1PART9SUF-W1 would be performed.
Search without suffix
Indicates whether the search algorithm is to remove any alphabetic characters that follow the last number. For example, if an exact match of part number ABC1PART9SUF-W1XYZ is not found, a search for ABC1PART9SUF-W1 would be performed.
User libraries
Indicates whether to search enabled Prediction Parts Library and Correlation Library files. User libraries are always searched before Windchill Risk and Reliability libraries. When this checkbox is selected, all enabled Parts Library and Correlation Library files are searched.
