FMEA Tree Data Linking
For a process or functional FMEA, you can either enter a failure rate for an item or link it to another item in the System file. For more information, see Data Links.
For a component FMEA, you can link an assembly or part in the FMEA Tree Items table to:
An assembly or part in the System Tree Items table so that its failure rate is used.
An item in a different FMEA so that the failure rate for this item is used.
A mode in a different FMEA so that failure rate for this mode is used.
The items and modes for an assembly or part in the FMEA Tree Items table are shown in the FMEA Worksheet table. If you link an assembly or part to an item or mode in a different FMEA, you must manually calculate the source FMEA before calculating this FMEA. This is because only one FMEA is calculated at a time. For more information, see Calculating FMEA Results.
All assemblies and parts in a component FMEA are implicitly linked to the same assemblies and parts in the System Tree Items table.
When an assembly or part is linked to another item, to obtain its failure rate, the failure rate for the linked item is multiplied by the value entered for its Failure Rate Percentage and then that value is divided by 100 to calculate a percentage ratio. A blank is the default value for Failure Rate Percentage. A blank value for this field is interpreted as 100%.
When an assembly or part is not linked, the failure rate that you enter for it is used and the value for Failure Rate Percentage is ignored.
