Using the Graph Wizard to Generate a Graph
The following procedure provides the basic steps for starting and using the Graph Wizard to generate a graph based on the data in the open System file.
1. Select Tools > Graph Wizard. The Graph Wizard starts and displays the Load Graph Template page. The option for creating a custom graph is selected by default.
The following table describes the options on the Load Graph Template page.
Option
Description
Create a custom graph
When selected (default), information about the graph to generate must be entered on subsequent pages of the Graph Wizard. You select this option when the settings required for generating the graph are not already saved in a Graph Template file.
Load a predefined graph
When selected, you select the Graph Template file that contains the settings for the graph to generate. A < Select file...> label appears for File name to indicate that only Graph Template files in this Project or the Common Library can be selected. For more information, see Common Library. You can use the browse button for File name to select the Graph Template file.
2. On the Load Graph Template page, select Create a custom graph and click Next.
If only one module is in use, the Graph Type page or Group Results page appears. Go to step 4.
If more than one module is in use, the Select Module page appears, listing the modules that support graphing. Graphing is supported by the following modules: FMEA, FRACAS, FTA, LCC, Markov, Prediction, and RBD. The default depends on the module active in the System file.
3. If the Select Module page appears, select the module for which to generate a graph and click Next.
For all modules but LCC, the Graph Type page appears.
For the LCC module, the Group Results page appears.
The options available from this page and the next several pages can vary based on the module selected.
4. For information specific to generating custom graphs for a particular module, see the appropriate topic:
If the records to include in the graph can be limited, once the pages for the particular graph type are completed, the Filter Data page appears.
5. If the Filter Data page appears, complete it and click Next. For more information, see Applying a Filter in the Graph Wizard.
When graphing the values for a data field in the FMEA, FRACAS, and Prediction modules, the Change Label Field page appears. On this page, you indicate if a field other than the default is to be used for displaying x-axis labels. Data field displays the default, which is the primary display field for the table. For more information, see Display Fields.
6. If the Change Label Fields Filter Data page appears, if you want to use the default value, click Next. Otherwise, to use a different field, do the following:
a. Select Change the field used to display the labels on the x-axis.
b. For Data field, select the field to use for the labels.
If the values in this field are not unique for all values being graphed, the value is shown only once. The resulting graph does not indicate the record to which this value corresponds. Therefore, to generate a meaningful graph, select a field with unique values over the range of records that is being graphed.
Click Next.
The Graph Options page appears so that you can specify what the graph is to look like.
7. Complete this page and the remaining pages to generate the graph. For more information, see Specifying Graph Options.
