General Support File Properties
The following table describes the properties that can appear under General. This heading appears for all support files.
Property
Description
Alternative [X] label
Provides for assigning a custom name to the singular form for each data level in the FMEA Worksheet table.
*
The [X] used in the name for this property and the next property is a variable representing the default data level name. The several properties for assigning custom data level names are available only in the properties for the Project’s FMEA Design file, which specifies which data levels to use in the FMEA Worksheet table. For more information, see Specifying Custom Names for FMEA Data Levels.
Alternative [X] label (plural)
Provides for assigning a custom name to the plural form for each data level in the FMEA Worksheet table.
Description
The description for the file. You can enter as many as 255 alphanumeric characters.
Display Causes
Indicates whether to show or hide the Causes table in a FMEA Modes Library file. This property is available only for a FMEA Modes Library file. For more information, see FMEA Modes Library Files. This table provides for inserting multiple causes for the failure mode selected in this file’s Modes table. When this checkbox is cleared (default), the Causes table is hidden. When it is selected, the Causes table is shown. Hiding the Causes table does not delete the causes that are inserted in it. It simply turns off the table so that it no longer appears in the FMEA Modes Library file. For more information, see Showing or Hiding the Causes Table in the FMEA Modes Library File.
Failure Rate Multiplier
The units in which to display the failure rate. This property is available in several FTA, RBD, and Prediction files. The default is 1000000 because the units for failure rates are most commonly failures per million hours. However, you can change the units. For example, you might change the units to 1000000000 to base calculations on failures per billion hours, which is also known as FITS (failures in time).
JPEG compression
Indicates whether to compress embedded JPG images when reports are printed to a file. This property is available only for a Report Binder file. For more information, see Using Report Binder Files to Generate Multiple Reports You enter a value from 1 through 10. The default is 10, which means no image compression occurs. While this default yields the highest image quality, it also results in the largest file size. Entering a 9 slightly reduces both the image quality and file size. Entering a 1 greatly reduces both the image quality and file size.
*
JPG compression values are also specified in the properties for Report Design files. However, when printing the multiple reports in a Report Binder file to a file, the compression values for individual reports are ignored. The compression value for the Report Binder file is used for all reports in the file.
Part Number
The part number for the file.
Read-Only
Indicates whether to treat the file as read-only. When this checkbox is cleared (default), the file can be modified. When it is selected, the file cannot be modified. In this case, you can still use the file as the basis for reports or graphs and possibly export the data in it. However, you cannot rename, delete, or modify it.
Reference Designator
An identifier for systematically recognizing the file.
Reset page number for each top report
Indicates whether pages for all reports in a Report Binder file are numbered consecutively or whether page numbering starts anew for each report. This checkbox is available only for Report Binder files. For more information, see Using Report Binder Files to Generate Multiple Reports. When this checkbox is cleared (default), all pages of the multiple reports are numbered consecutively. When it is selected, the starting page of each report resets to 1.
