Specifying Custom Names for FMEA Data Levels
In the properties for the FMEA Design file, you can specify custom names for the five possible FMEA data levels. For example, for Alternative Cause label and Alternative Cause label (plural), you can specify other singular and plural nouns for Cause and Causes labels.
1. If the FMEA Design file is not already open, then open it.
2. Select View > File Properties. The File Properties window for this support file opens. For more information, see Support File Properties.
All properties for specifying alternative data level labels are blank by default so that standard data level names are used.
3. Under General, do the following:
a. Locate the data level’s Alternative label property and enter the custom name to use for the singular form in the Setting column.
b. Locate the data level’s Alternative plural label property and enter the custom name to use for the plural form in the Setting column.
4. Click the X in the upper corner to close the File Properties window.
The custom names that you specify for FMEA data levels are used in panes, windows, menus, and error messages. They are also used in the FMEA Design file. However, there are many places where these custom names are not used. For example, they are not used in the FMEA Setup Wizard, Setup Structure window, and Verify FMEA Data window. They are also not used in the status bar, tooltips, or when importing requires you to map a field to an FMEA data level identifier. Additionally, these properties do not affect field prompts. However, field prompts can be customized in the Project’s Data Definition file. For more information, see Data Definition Files.
