Requirements exchange
Requirements exchange is the process of establishing consistency among requirement specifications and requirements traceability between remote locations using separate data sources and the continuous harmonization of the requirement specifications and requirements traceability over time.
Reasons
Requirements exchange occurs for a variety of reasons:
To support request for quotation (RFQ) process.
The development of complex integrated system requires tight collaboration between partners at a very early stage. For instance, requirement specifications are frequently exchanged during the request for quotation phase.
To support collaborative product development.
Requirements and test data can be exchanged throughout the development lifecycle.
To preserve historic requirements specifications.
Financial constraints and/or bandwidth prevent the maintainers of a server from keeping older requirements available to users who still may desire them. Some industries also require specifications to be kept over large periods of time, for example, 20 years or more.
To balance load.
If one server is extremely popular a mirror may help relieve the load.
