Snapshots, Documents and Partitioning
Windchill Requirements Synchronizer enables the selection of items to be exported from a data source. In this section various terms are defined.
Snapshot
A snapshot is a collection of documents to be exported and is similar to the publication list available in the configurations. A snapshot may be available in the form of a directory structure containing the documents and their attachments, or as a ZIP archive.
*
ZIP archives are generated using the Eclipse internal libraries.ZIP archives generated by third party tools may not be compatible with the Eclipse implementation. Always make sure that ZIPs are generated from the Eclipse environment.
Documents
The items to be exchanged are typically a set of requirements specifications and the traceability among requirements. Documents in Windchill Requirements Connector represent hierarchical containers for requirements and are an extract of the original data source containers.
The following table provides the mapping to the entities of each individual tool supported.

Partitioning
Most commercially available data sources offer the possibility of partitioning requirements in so-called views: a view may maintain both a vertical partitioning, which involves selection of attributes or columns; or a horizontal partitioning, which involves selection of filters or queries.

It is common practice for requirements specifications to be assigned several views with horizontal and/or vertical partitioning; each view contains the requirements and related attributes that a given partner is authorized to see.
