Manage Replacements
You can use the Manage Replacements window to assign two types of Replacement relationship to the items in a parts list:
Alternate parts — a part that can be used in place of the selected part in any assembly
Substitute parts — a part that can be used in place of the selected part in a specific assembly
Refer to Service Replacement for further information.
The Manage Replacements window displays a summary of the Alternate and Substitute relationships that have been configured for the parts list item.
To open the window, use the Replace > Manage Replacements context menu choice for an item in the parts list structure tree.
Alternates
Use the actions in this table to manage the Alternate relationships for a selected parts list item.

Remove
Removes an Alternate relationship for the selected part.
Add Alternate Part
Opens the Find Alternate Part window. You can search for a part to associate as an alternative to the selected part.
A part that is defined as an alternative is indicated by the An image of a gray cog icon in the table.
Change from a one way to a two way relationship using the drop down menu in the Two-Way column.
Substitutes
Use the actions in this table to manage the Substitute relationships for a selected parts list item.

Add Substitute Part
Opens the Find Substitute Part window. You can search for a part to associate as a substitute for the selected part.
A part that is defined as a substitute is indicated by the An image of a blue cog icon in the table.
Once you have configured a Replacement relationship for a parts list item, details are visible in two locations:
In the Related Objects tab of the part list item’s Information page — refer to the Alternates and Substitutes tables
