Choose a Step Check Mode
Overview
When you enable Step Check on a procedure step, you can choose how Step Check will validate that step. There are two Step Check modes:
Standard Step Check—uses training data to detect pass and fail conditions
Focus Area—uses a selected image and region of interest (no training required)
The mode you choose determines:
whether training is required
what results can be returned (Pass, Fail, Unsure)
how Step Check behaves during execution
Keep in mind that you can start with a Focus Area to quickly define the validation region and enable Continue Training to collect images during real-world use. After sufficient data is collected, switch to the trained, Standard Step Check mode and evaluate whether it provides more stable validation results. You can switch between modes at any time by adding or removing a Focus Area.

You can capture both Pass and Fail states
The correct and incorrect outcomes are visually distinct
You want Step Check to improve over time using training data
Verifying that a part is correctly installed
Checking alignment or positioning of a rigid component
Focus Area
You cannot reliably capture Fail states
There are many possible incorrect conditions
You want a quick setup without training
Verifying a component “looks correct”
Situations where failures are unpredictable or difficult to stage
