Troubleshooting Job Dependencies
Solutions for common issues encountered when bulk moving dependent job appointments and service task appointments on the Service Board.
My Selection Keeps Getting Deselected
Cause: You may be exceeding the Maximum Appointment Selection Count limit.
Solution:
Contact your administrator to check the Maximum Appointment Selection Count setting.
Select fewer appointments (below the configured limit).
Ensure you are not selecting appointments that should be excluded (final status, merged appointments, and so on).
Appointments Snap Back When I Drag Them
Cause: Your selection contains unsupported combinations or violates bulk move rules.
Solution:
Check that your selection meets these requirements:
All appointments are from the same dependency group (for dependent jobs) or the same job (for service tasks).
All appointments are in active/pending status (not final/ended).
No merged appointments are included.
If reassigning: all appointments are currently on the same resource.
You are not mixing different appointment types (dependent jobs with regular jobs, service tasks with regular jobs, and so on).
If reassigning, ensure all selected appointments are on the same resource before dragging to a new resource.
For more information, see Supported and Unsupported Selections.
Red Dependency Lines Appear After Moving Appointments
Cause: Your move has violated one or more job dependencies. This occurs when an appointment is scheduled to occur before another appointment it depends on.
Solution:
1. Review the appointments in the Dependent Jobs Calendar.
2. Identify which dependency is shown in red.
3. Check and adjust the time dependencies to resolve the violation.
4. Save only after all red dependencies have been resolved.
For more information, see Dependency Validation After a Bulk Move.
A Forbidden Tooltip Appears When I Try to Drag
Cause: Your selection contains invalid combinations that cannot be bulk moved.
Common reasons:
Attempting to reassign appointments that are on different resources.
Selecting appointments from different dependency groups.
Selecting a mixture of dependent and regular job appointments.
Selecting appointments from different jobs (for service tasks).
Trying to move multiple service task appointments from the regular calendar.
Solution:
Verify you are selecting only appointments that meet the supported selection criteria.
Use the appropriate calendar for your task:
Dependent Jobs Calendar for dependent job appointments.
Service Task Planning Calendar for service task appointments.
For reassignment, ensure all selected appointments are currently on the same resource.
I Can Not Select Certain Appointments
Cause: Appointments may be excluded due to status or configuration.
Possible reasons: The appointment is in a final/ended status (cannot be selected).
Solution: Only select active or pending appointments.
Changes Are Not Saving
Cause: You may have validation errors.
Solution:
1. Review the warning message that appears — it will indicate what needs to be corrected.
2. Ensure all changes are valid within your organization's business rules.
3. Try saving again after corrections.
If the problem persists, contact your administrator.
I Accidentally Exited Without Saving
Cause: You clicked Exit or left the dependency calendar before clicking Save.
Solution:
All pending changes are discarded.
The appointments are back to their original positions.
You must perform the bulk move operation again.
This time, make sure to click Save before exiting.
The Maximum Selection Count Was Exceeded
Cause: You selected more appointments than the configured Maximum Appointment Selection Count setting allows.
Solution:
1. Your selection was automatically deselected.
2. Select a smaller group of appointments (fewer than the maximum).
3. If you need to move more appointments, perform the operation in multiple batches.
4. Contact your administrator if you believe the Maximum Appointment Selection Count should be increased.
I am Unable to Reassign Appointments to a Different Resource
Cause: The selected appointments may be on different resources, or reassign rules are not being met.
Solution:
1. Verify all selected appointments are currently on the same resource before attempting to reassign.
2. If appointments span multiple resources, you can only reschedule (change time), not reassign.
3. To move appointments from multiple resources to a single new resource, perform separate bulk moves for each resource group.
4. Ensure the target resource has availability at the requested time.
For more information, see Supported and Unsupported Selections.
Red Dependency Lines does Not Disappear Even After I Moved Appointments
Cause: The appointments may still be in an invalid dependency state, or there may be additional dependencies you have not addressed.
Solution:
1. Review all dependency arrows in the Dependent Jobs Calendar.
2. Check that all secondary appointments occur after their primary appointments.
3. Verify the time differences meet your organization's dependency requirements.
4. If multiple appointments depend on each other, ensure the entire chain is in the correct order.
5. Some dependencies may have specific time windows — verify the appointments fall within those windows.
6. Contact your dispatcher or administrator if the dependency structure itself needs to be reviewed.
I Do not See the Service Task Planning Calendar Option
Cause: Service Task Planning Calendar may not be enabled or accessible for your role.
Solution:
1. Verify your user role includes access to Service Task Planning Calendar.
2. Ensure you have a Work Order with service tasks open.
3. Contact your administrator to enable Service Task Planning Calendar if needed.
4. As an alternative, you can reschedule individual service tasks from the regular calendar.
Bulk Move is not Available for My Selection
Cause: Your selection does not meet the requirements for bulk move.
Solution:
Verify your selection contains:
Only one type of appointment (all dependent jobs or all service tasks).
Appointments from only one dependency group or one job.
Appointments in active or pending status.
No merged appointments.
A number of appointments within the Maximum Appointment Selection Count limit.
If all requirements are met and bulk move still is not available, contact your administrator to verify that the feature is enabled for your organization.
