FAQ: Job Dependencies
Answers to frequently asked questions about bulk moving appointments on the Service Board.
When Should I Use Bulk Move Instead of Moving Appointments Individually?
Use bulk move when you have multiple dependent appointments that need to shift together — for example, an entire dependency chain that needs to be pushed later in the day, or several service tasks for the same job that need to be rescheduled at once. This is faster and reduces the risk of breaking dependencies by accidentally moving only some related appointments.
How Many Appointments Can I Select at Once?
The maximum number of appointments you can select at once is controlled by the Maximum Appointment Selection Count setting, which can be configured by administrators to a value between 2 and 150. If you attempt to select more than this limit, all appointments will be deselected and you will need to select fewer appointments. For more information, see Configuring Maximum Appointment Selection Count.
What is the Difference Between Reschedule and Reassign?
The two actions work as follows:
Reschedule changes the time of the appointments. All selected appointments shift by the same amount of time. This works whether appointments are on the same resource or different resources.
Reassign changes which resource (technician, crew, and so on) the appointments are assigned to. This only works when all selected appointments are currently on the same resource.
Can I Mix Different Types of Appointments in One Selection?
No. You can only select one of the following:
Multiple dependent job appointments from the same Dependency Group, OR
Multiple service task appointments from the same job
You cannot mix dependent job appointments with regular job appointments, service task appointments with regular job appointments, or dependent appointments with service task appointments.
For more information, see Supported and Unsupported Selections.
What Happens If I Exit Without Saving?
Any pending changes made in the Dependent Jobs Calendar or Service Task Planning Calendar will be discarded, and the appointments will revert to their original positions on the regular calendar.
Can I Select Appointments That Are in Final/Ended Status?
No. Appointments in an ended (final) status cannot be selected. This matches the existing multi-select behavior in the regular calendar. Only active or pending appointments can be included in a bulk move.
How Do I Know If My Selection Is Valid?
A valid selection must meet all of the following criteria:
All appointments belong to the same dependency group (for dependent jobs) or the same job (for service tasks).
No appointments are in a final/ended status.
No merged appointments are included.
If reassigning, all appointments are on the same resource.
The total number of appointments does not exceed the Maximum Appointment Selection Count.
If your selection is invalid, a forbidden tooltip will appear when you try to drag, and the appointments will snap back to their original position.
What Is a Dependency Group?
A Dependency Group is a logical grouping of dependent jobs that have relationships to each other — for example, a primary job and all its secondary jobs that must occur after it. You can only bulk move appointments within a single dependency group; you cannot move appointments from two different dependency groups together.
Can I Move Multiple Service Task Appointments from the Regular Calendar?
No. Multiple service task appointments cannot be bulk moved directly from the regular calendar, even if they belong to the same job. You must enter the Service Task Planning Calendar for that Work Order to bulk move multiple service tasks. However, you can still drag and move a single service task appointment individually from the regular calendar.
What If My Bulk Move Creates Invalid Dependencies?
If moving the selected appointments causes a dependency to be violated — for example, a secondary appointment ends up before the primary it depends on — the dependency line will be shown in red after the move. You should resolve the invalid dependency before saving. If you save with invalid dependencies, a warning message will be displayed.
