Defining Break Hours in Batch Optimization
Break hours are the time duration when Schedule Optimization does not assign any work orders to the technicians. Schedule Optimization considers break hours as an event to ensure that work orders are not scheduled during those times. If a dispatcher creates an event that overlaps with break hours, it is considered an overlap and can make the route inactive or result in scheduling an overlapping work order.
Break hours are supported in Optimized Batch and Long Term Planner and not supported in Real-Time Optimization. They can be defined either at the Technician level or Territory level.
Some of the scenarios considered when defining break hours are:
If break hours are defined at both levels, then the Technician level takes precedence.
If certain technicians in the territory have defined break hours and no break hours are configured at Territory Level, then only those technicians' break hours are considered.
If break hours is defined at the Territory level and not at the Technician level then Territory Break hours are considered for all technicians in the territory.
*
It is recommended to define break hours in the same Time Zone and similar to Territory and Technician Working hours Time Zone. However, during break hours, Drive time and Return drive time are not calculated. If the break event is the last in the route, previously scheduled work order drive time and return drive time are calculated.
Example 1
Working Hours: 9 AM to 6 PM IST
Break Hours (Defined at Territory level): 1 PM to 2 PM IST
All the technicians in the territory are not assigned with any work orders from 1 PM to 2 PM IST.
Example 2
Working Hours: 9 AM to 6 PM IST
Break Hours (Defined at Territory level): 1 PM to 2 PM IST
Number of Technicians: 3 (Technician 1 to 3)
Technician 1 Break hours: 1.30 PM to 2.30 PM IST
The technician 1 in the territory is not assigned with any work orders from 1.30 PM to 2.30 PM IST, but technician 2 and technician 3 in the territory are not assigned with any work orders from 1 PM to 2 PM IST as defined at the Territory level.
*
The break hours defined at Territory or Technician level are not displayed in Dispatch Console. However, the defined break hours are displayed in Service Board.
In Dispatch console, the Break hours configured Territory or Technician is not displayed.
