You can launch SFM Designer from the SFM transactions and output documents directly, by clicking the Launch SFM Designer button. This option is available when you open any SFM Transaction in Lightning, by giving permissions to the profile you are using in the Feature Permissions page. This helps you to launch SFM Designer quickly and easily, and edit the SFM transaction/output document as per your requirements.

SFM Designer opens in a new tab when you click Launch SFM Designer.

When you launch SFM Designer from a linked SFM process, the corresponding linked process in Designer is loaded, not the parent process.

Based on the value set in the SET006 (Module: SFM Transaction Manager, Submodule: SFM Transaction Designer) global setting, the SFM Designer page that launches when you click Launch SFM Designer will either be the new enhanced HTML-5 based page (if you have chosen HTML as value for the setting) or the old Visualforce page (if you have chosen Flash).
