Campaign-driven work generation
Generate hundreds of work orders or opportunities in a single action by defining campaign criteria that target assets by type, age, location, or product.
Overview
Creating work orders one at a time does not scale when an organization needs to service thousands of assets across multiple sites. Campaigns in PTC Orbit turn a single definition into bulk action: an administrator specifies the target criteria, and the platform generates work orders or opportunities for every matching asset automatically.
Two campaign types serve different business goals. A Service Campaign targets maintenance activities: inspections, part replacements, or corrective actions. A Revenue Campaign targets sales activities: product upgrades, service renewals, or cross-selling offers. Both types follow the same creation workflow, but they generate different record types at the end.
How it works
An administrator opens the Campaigns page and defines a new campaign. The definition includes the campaign type (service or revenue), target asset criteria, and operational details:
For service campaigns: Work Order type, Purpose of Visit, Priority, and estimated Duration in Hours.
For revenue campaigns: Opportunity details and associated account targets.
After saving the campaign, PTC Orbit evaluates the criteria against the installed base and generates one work order or opportunity per matching asset. Each generated record inherits the campaign's priority, purpose, and duration settings. Administrators monitor progress from the campaign dashboard, where a pie chart breaks down status by completion rate.
Technicians and sales representatives receive their assigned records through normal work order and opportunity list views. They complete tasks, update status, and add notes: the campaign dashboard reflects these updates in real time.
Considerations
Campaigns generate records against the same quota as manually created work orders. Verify organizational capacity before launching large-scale campaigns.
A campaign's status progresses through a lifecycle. You can change campaign status from the detail view, but generated work orders remain active regardless of campaign status changes.
Revenue campaigns require Opportunities to be enabled in the PTC Orbit configuration.
