Operational partition (UPDM - MODAF aliases)
An Operational Partition is a proprietary element that is required to model UPDM in Modeler.
Creation
To create an Operational Partition:
From an Operational Activity, Standard Operational Activity or Operational Partition: right-click the element, point to New, point to MODAF, point to Activity Group, and then click Operational Partition. From the Select Type dialog, create or select the element that is represented by the Operational Partition.
An Operational Partition can represent a Known Resource, Logical Architecture, Node, Node Role, Problem Domain or Security Domain.
Click the Operational Partition button, and then click in free space or within an Operational Partition on the diagram. From the Select Type dialog, create or select the element that is represented by the Operational Partition.
An Operational Partition can represent a Known Resource, Logical Architecture, Node, Node Role, Problem Domain or Security Domain.
When the represented element has parts, you can quickly create and add nested Operational Partition elements to represent those parts: right-click the Operational Partition, point to Populate, point to Nodes and then click Operational Partitions (New & Existing).
On the Items tab of an Operational Partition element's property pages, you can view and navigate to the element that is represented by the Operational Partition through the Linked Item association.
Appearance
When shown on an OV-5 Operational Activity Model, an Operational Partition appears as follows:
Through the View Options you can show the Operational Partition vertically or horizontally.
Relationships
The following relationships are of importance to an Operational Partition:
On an OV-5 Operational Activity Model , Operational Partition elements can be used to create and delete Is Capable Of Performing relationships between Node or Security Domain elements and Operational Activity or Standard Operational Activity elements:
When you create the Operational Activity Action within an Operational Partition, Modeler creates an Is Capable Of Performing relationship between the Node or Security Domain that is represented by the Operational Partition and the Operational Activity or Standard Operational Activity that is the type of the Operational Activity Action.
Dragging an Operational Activity Action to an Operational Partition creates an Is Capable Of Performing relationship between the system resource that is represented by that Operational Partition and the Operational Activity or Standard Operational Activity that is the type of the Operational Activity Action.
Dragging an Operational Partition from an Operational Partition deletes the Is Capable Of Performing relationship that exists between the system resource that is represented by the Operational Partition and the Operational Activity or Standard Operational Activity that is the type of the Operational Activity Action.
Note that when a Node Role is linked to an Operational Partition, the Is Capable Of Performing relationship is applied to the Node that is the type of the Node Role.
The following sections provide information about how an Operational Partition is used in the model.
