Creating a model (Model Explorer)
You can create an empty model, or a model that includes selected profiles added through Model Explorer and Modeler.

You can create a model only if you have Write access permissions to the database.
The access permissions of the Model are set to that of the owning Database, if permissions have been set for the Database. If no access permissions have been set up for the Database, the Model access permissions are marked as Public Read/Write.
The following characters cannot be used in a Model's name: ¦ ! " & * : \ < > ?
To create an empty model (through Model Explorer):
1. Start Model Explorer.
2. Locate the Database in which you want to create a model:
a. Expand the SQL icon.
b. Expand the Server that owns the Database in which you want to create a model.
If the Server that owns the Database is not shown, add the Server to Model Explorer.

c. If the Database in which you want to create a model is not shown, show the server's databases and optionally bookmark the Database in which you want to create a model.
3. Right-click the database in which you want to create a model, point to Create New Model, and then click New Empty Model.
4. Type the name of the Model, and then press the Enter key.
5. Set up the new model.

To create a model with profiles added (through Model Explorer):
1. Start Model Explorer.
For more information refer to Starting Model Explorer.
2. Locate the Database in which you want to create a model:
a. Expand the SQL icon.
b. Expand the Server that owns the Database in which you want to create a model.
If the Server that owns the Database is not shown, add the Server to Model Explorer.
c. If the Database in which you want to create a model is not shown, show the server's databases and then optionally bookmark the Database.
3. Right-click the database in which you want to create a model, point to Create New Model, and then click New Model With Profiles.
4. In the Model Name box, type the name of the new model.
5. Select the check boxes associated with any Profiles you want to add to the model.
6. Click OK.
7. Set up the new model.
To create a model (through Modeler):
1. In the Home tab, click the New Model button or
Click Model and then click New Model or
In the Quick Access Toolbar, click the New Model button (only if New Model icon is configured to display in the Quick Access Toolbar).
2. In the New Model... dialog, if the database you require is not shown in the Database box, click the associated selection button and select the database in which you want to create the model.
3. In the Model Name box, type the name of the new model.
4. Select the check boxes associated with any Profiles you want to add to the model.
5. Click OK.
6. Set up the new model.
