Working with IBM Rational ClearCase (CM tool integration)
*
CM tool integration support for IBM Rational ClearCase is being deprecated.
The topics that document the CM tool integration in this help are generic using Microsoft Visual SourceSafe terminology. The following notes apply when working with IBM Rational ClearCase.
This help refers to CM tool projects and files. In the context of ClearCase, a CM tool project is a subfolder of a vob.
If you open a Model or replica for the first time and you are using different CM tool paths or a different ClearCase view to those stored in the Model, you must reconnect the Model and its Packages using locally stored paths.
If you are using a Snapshot view and another user adds a new Package using a different Snapshot or Dynamic view, you may have to refresh your Snapshot view before performing a Get Latest or Check Out operation from Modeler.
If a user who has different CM tool paths adds a Package from a different CM tool project, you must reconnect that Package using locally stored paths.
To check in a Modeler model the first time you must:
Create a subfolder of the vob, in which to store the model. You must set this up manually, because the check in operation cannot create a subfolder of a vob.
Using ClearCase, check in the subfolder you created.
Ensure that you leave the subfolder of the vob checked out, else each check in and check out operations performed on Packages will have to also check in and check out the subfolder.
Using Modeler, check in the model to the subfolder you created. We recommend that you select the subfolder through its UNC path, that is, through your network neighborhood.
If you are using ClearCase MultiSite, you must select the 'When creating an element in a replicated VOB, make current replica the master of all newly created braches' option in ClearCase.
For procedural information about setting up ClearCase and checking in a model the first time, click here.
When you create a replica of a model, you must do so through the Create Replica > From Directory command. The Create Replica > From Configuration Management command is not available.
When you reuse a Package by adding it to your model, you must do so through the Tools > Package Import/Export > Import command. The Import New Packages command is not available.
We recommend that when using IBM Rational ClearCase with Modeler you make the MVFS case insensitive and case preserving. To do this, on the ClearCase server, open the Control Panel, double-click the ClearCase application, click the MVFS tab, and then select the Case Insensitive MVFS and Case Preserving check boxes.
We recommend that on the IBM Rational ClearCase Options dialog (which you open through the Modeler Tools > Configuration Management Options command) you clear the 'Always prompt for an activity when working in a view of a ClearCase project' check box, so that you are not prompted to specify an activity for each package file that is checked out.
If you check out a Package, rename that Package in the Modeler environment, and then check in that Package, the file name of the Package in the CM tool environment will reflect the original name of the Package, not the new name.

When working with IBM Rational ClearCase, we strongly recommend that you do not cancel check in or check out operations while in progress.
