To Select a Surface, Edge, or Point Using Smart Selection
1. On the status bar, enable the Smart selection filter.
2. In the Figure window, select the part that contains the surface or edge that you want to select. Surfaces and edges on the part become available for selection.
3. Move the pointer over the surface or edge. The feature is prehighlighted.
4. Select the prehighlighted feature. Depending on the type of face or edge selected, additional features such as the center axis or point, or the start and end points are shown and become available for selection.
5. To select a point on the feature, move the pointer over the point. The point is prehighlighted.
6. Select the prehighlighted point, or press SHIFT to select an arbitrary point on the model surface. In this case, the point under the pointer is prehighlighted.

To restrict arbitrary points selection to a single part, select the part, first.
You cannot select an arbitrary point on an edge.
7. To select the subsequent geometry of the highlighted part, press and hold CTRL and select the geometric feature. The parent part becomes deselected.
Press and hold ALT while performing the selection methods described in this procedure to select a feature on a part that has the Phantom style applied.
If you press and hold ALT when Smart is the selection method, the pointer changes to a phantom pointer . This indicates that phantom parts and non phantom parts are selectable in the Figure window.
