Figures can have many objects that may overlap or share a location. To make selections easier, use the selection filter to limit the type of selectable object or geometry.

Selection filters can be set as the default selection, or for the active figure.

In Creo Illustrate, you can set the selection filter for 2D, 3D and Schematic figures.
