To Define Grouping, Item Tags, and Itemization in an Item List
You can use the Part Grouping dialog box to define these operations:
• Grouping of parts
• Naming conventions for Item Tags
Use the ribbon to perform these tasks:
• Manually group parts
• Toggle itemization
Procedures for each operation follow.
To Group Parts and Define Naming for Item Tags
1. Click > . The Part Grouping dialog box opens.
2. Select the method for grouping parts:
◦ Do Not Group Parts—Lists each instance of each part. Later, you can define groups manually or leave the parts ungrouped.
◦ Use Structure Instancing—Creates one entry in the Item List for all instances of a CAD part, including parts with different names.
◦ Compare Names—Creates one entry in the Item List for all instances of a part with the same name.
3. To list part names without including the file extension, select the Exclude Suffix check box.
4. To exclude other characters from the Item Tag, set one or both of the following options:
◦ Skip Characters From Left—Sets a number of characters to exclude from the beginning of the part name.
◦ Skip Characters From Right—Sets a number of characters to exclude from the end of the part name.
For example, for the part SET_SCREW.PRT, these are the changes to the Item Tag:
◦ Skip 4 characters from left—SCREW.PRT
◦ Skip 10 characters from right—SET
◦ Exclude Suffix—SET_SCREW
| The Exclude Suffix option is applied first, if you select it and you skip characters from the right. |
5. Click OK. The dialog box closes.
To Manually Group or Ungroup Parts
1. In any of these locations, select two or more parts:
◦ Item List
◦ Graphics area
◦ sBOM Tree
2. Click > . The parts are grouped in the Item List.
3. To ungroup parts, click > . The parts are ungrouped.
To Toggle Itemization
Select one or more items in the Item List, and then click > . This information is toggled:
• ITM number
• Callout, if the item has a callout defined
