Example: Placing Labels at the End of a Fiber Segment
When a label is set to be displayed at the end of a fiber segment, its position is determined by the positional setting for the fiber shape, the direction of the fiber, the length of the segment, and if the segment end is internal or external.
Internal segment—The port at the segment end is connected to more than two segments.
External segment—The port at the segment end is connected to one or two segments.
The rules for positioning a label at the end of a fiber segment:
Type of Segment End
Label Position
Rule
Internal
All positions
The label is not displayed at the segment shape end.
External
Both ends
The label is displayed at both ends.
Start
When the port is a FROM port, the label is displayed at the start of the segment.
End
When the port is a TO port, the label is displayed at the segment's end.
A label is not displayed and a warning message appears when:
The offset setting for the automatic label is greater than the fiber segment length.
The offset value is greater than 40% of the total external segment length and the label position is set to Both Ends.
The label is attached to the first section and the offset is greater than the section length. The segment is external at both ends
The label placement settings still apply and the label will be displayed if you modify the fiber segment or the label offset.
